In Sharjah and the neighboring emirates, apart from
snow skiing, just about every other sport imaginable
is available. From indoor to outdoor activities,
wet or dry sports, for fun or to learn, for teams
or individuals, you name it, you can do it!'

Formula 1
Since the year 2000, Sharjah, has hosted the Formula
1 Powerboat Races. The races have proved Sharjah
to be a regional pioneer in hosting international
events that attract worldwide attention.
Formed by an Emiri Decree (5/1996), the sole purpose
of The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development
Authority is to become the central marketing arm
of Sharjah Government - devoted to the promotion
of commerce and tourism.
Our daily tasks include
the close liaison with our fellow authorities, Sharjah's
many travel industry professionals as well as any
and all internal or external marketing organizations
or individuals interested in Sharjah. In case of
Sharjah - these are very enjoyable tasks, indeed!
We are proud to say
that whether for tourism or choosing a great place
to live and work - Sharjah is a beautiful modern
city - friendly, safe and secure with an offshore
tax base, great facilities, schools, shopping, green
parks, and clean streets. Come over to Sharjah,
relax, smile, have a coffee and enjoy yourself in
a modern oasis of peaceful fun.
Bowling
This is a popular game that can be played at anytime
of the year. Please call the centers below for details
of costs, leagues and fun competitions. It is recommended
that you book in advance.

Cricket
Sharjah has a great number of unofficial cricket
pitches! Most weekends one can see a wicket set
up on an open patch of sand with a batsman, bowler,
a number of fielders plus several supporters turned
out for an afternoons entertainment.
Sharjah Cricket Stadium (532 2991) is the only venue
hosting International cricket in the Middle East.
The cricket season runs from mid-September to the
end of May. The local and Bukhatir League matches
are organized by the Sharjah Cricket Council and
two international tournaments are hosted by the
CBFS, in March/April and October/November respectively.
Night Cricket is held annually, during the Holy
month of Ramadan. The stadium is available for hire.
Contact the stadium for details of membership, forthcoming
events and hire charges.
Trekking
There are some wonderful hikes, set within the spectacular
mountains and wadis of the UAE, even in the high
Hajar Mountain range. Water, good socks and walking
boots and sun cream are essential. Routes generally
spread by word of mouth and unless you are sure
of the way, it is best to go in an organized party.
Sand Skiing
Without the opportunity to snow ski, sand skiing
provides the next best thing! With the aid of a
four-wheel drive, all you need is a big steep dune
and off your go on an exhilarating ride.
'Big Red' as it is
affectionately known lies half way to Hatta, to
the left of the main road and is a popular skiing
spot.
In some sports stores
they sell 'sand boards' which are cheaper and more
basic snowboards. For children, a plastic sledge
or something similar is enough to give a lot of
fun for anyone.
Horse Riding
Riding in the Arab world is a traditional sport
and the Arab thoroughbred is famous worldwide. Sharjah
Equestrian & Racing Club (531 1155/531 1188)
offers both riding and racing just 20 minutes from
Sharjah city.
The school provides training and livery in a self-contained
area with good clubhouse facilities, 150 stables,
teaching paddocks, floodlit sand arena, dressage

Assistant Instructor) instructors for all levels
of ability. Advanced riders have a choice of lessons
